The Lot 11 and Area Watershed Management Group recently presented their 2020 Youth Stewardship Award to Avery Bonnis, who has volunteered many hours planting trees, doing beach cleanups, and as a junior councillor for the watershed group’s 2019 day camp. O’Leary-Inverness MLA Robert Henderson helped Lot 11 and Area Watershed Group coordinator Karen Rank make the presentation.

Shoreline Cleanup 2019

The Lot 11 and Area Watershed Management Group recently joined with area residents to remove litter from beaches in their municipality. Clean-ups were held later in the summer to accommodate the piping plover population, a species at risk that nests in the area.

Karen Rank, watershed group coordinator, said, “Our shorelines are so important to many species, and keeping them clean and free of garbage is a yearly undertaking for our group. We get great support from volunteers, and are grateful to the Harbour Authority of Milligan’s Shore for taking care of disposal of the collected waste.”
